Finding me Again starting with Fitness
Ever feel that you let your fitness get away from you or that you are running on fumes? Eating bad, no energy, not as pleasant to be around and not loving how you feel or look in your clothes? Well that was me. A few years ago when my husband left on his 5th deployment with the Army I was fed up. Fed up with myself and ready to feel better, mentally and physically.

My fitness journey started by joining a gym. I know there are thoughts about gym workouts vs at home workouts but I needed to start at the gym. There were so many excuses over the years of why I didn’t go to the gym or why I would start and only last a few days or few weeks. I would complain about my knees, bad back or the fact that I get bored really easy. I have allowed these excuses to hold me down and mess with my mindset. So I decided to go at it again.
No More Excuses
I joined a local gym that was about 5 minutes from my house. Excuse one down, no excuse about it being too far. The gym I joined was low in price and had everything from machines, weights, classes, training and even a theater room. Excuse two of cost down.
When I decided to give the gym a shot again I wanted to do it right and find what worked best for me. I joined in with the group training that the gym offered vs just doing the classes. Again I get bored really easy so when it comes to regular classes I always find myself bored and ready to leave within about 20 min. I found myself enjoying the group training for a few reasons. It was a smaller group, every minute or so we were doing something different, I was getting cardio and able to do weights. My goal was 2-3 workouts a week whether at the gym or home.
I love HIIT programs and I found those gave me really good results and kept me from getting bored. Being able to do those types of workouts at the gym and at home has been nice. I did purchase beach body (I am not a representative) and have found several of their programs that I like when I need to workout at home. I am not a fan of just straight cardio.
What types of workouts do you like the best?
Food is always a struggle for me so I decided to order pre-made foods from a company that specializes in small portions with a variety weight loss and protein for strength building. This was due to the fact that I don’t cook or eat right (cereal counts right?). It was easier for me to add fitness into my life but food is usually where I get stuck.
Over the years I have learned how to add more protein to my diet, drink more water and have my favorite foods in moderation. I truly love pizza and coffee so I have learned that if I want to have pizza once a week or once every two weeks I have to eat smart the other days. Now I can’t do chicken and rice everyday. I tried and it was not pleasant.
My goal is not to be a body builder or compete so I let myself be ok with not living on such a strict diet. Now for those who do go that strict I applaud you and I fully believe everyone has to figure out what works best for them and their goals.
A Better Me
By going to the gym I found myself decompressing from work and coming home eager to spend time with my kids because I had the ability to let go of some stress. I didn’t come home and need a break or just want to be alone, no I wanted to play with my kids and enjoy my time with them. I have been consistent with the gym since I started and it has made a world of difference. Not just in my weight and health but my energy and attitude.
Now I am big on supporting ladies in their journey no matter what their goals are. Whether you are a person who has a lot to lose, a little to lose, just want to tone, build muscle or fit differently in your clothes your goal is important. We are all on a different fitness journey and as long as you work to your goal and find the best you then it doesn’t matter what someone else is doing.
My stats may not match your stats but that doesn’t matter. Go for a goal that makes you happy not a goal to compare to someone else.
My biggest goal was losing body fat. I started at 135 lbs and 30% body fat. I also had very little muscle and couldn’t do more than two or three push ups. When I hit my goal I was 115 lbs and 20% body fat. I was ecstatic. I have over the time of hitting this goal fluctuated back and forth with about 5 lbs. Sometimes due to holidays or sheer laziness but I now have the tools to be where I am comfortable. I have no desire to lose anymore weight. My new goal is just to keep building muscle and lean out slightly. Nothing crazy.
Again choose a goal that makes your heart happy!
Tools I Use during My Fitness Journey
Joining the gym was a great step for me but once I got into a routine with making fitness a priority I found that working out at home was possible and enjoyable too.
There are a few tools I implemented at home that made a difference. One of those being bands. I love bands. I use them all the time. Even when I am not doing a full workout I can use them for some quick muscle activation. The bands below are the ones I use. The case is great because I even take these when I travel. It works great because if I can’t get to a gym while away I can do some things in my hotel room with the bands.
I also purchased several sets of weights. I wanted a variety of lbs available so depending on what workout I was doing or muscle group I could change it up. It also allowed me to go heavier when I needed and lighter when I was sore. (or tired)
Coffee is my daily go to. I love coffee. (Hence the name of the blog) I am always trying different brands and even want to open a coffee shop some day. So when someone mentioned collagen peptides to help with cellulite and said it could be added to coffee I was all in. I add one scoop to my coffee every morning. There is no taste to it. The best part is I have noticed a big difference in cellulite in my legs. Just in time for summer. I just finished my first container and got my second one in the mail a few days ago.
Sweet Sweat Waist Trainer
I also love the sweet sweat band. I bought it about a year ago and wore it for a while then totally forgot about it during my move a few months ago. Scrolling through instagram I saw a friend wearing hers and remembered I had one. I have been using it almost daily ever sense. Even on non gym days I can put it on and wear it around the house for a little while. I use their gel to go on before I put it on and it makes a big difference.
Different sizes are available.
